What drew you to participate in the Healthcare Fellows program?

Honestly, my boss at the time signed me up. If I remember correctly, several colleagues participated before I did. I remember thinking, “I won’t learn anything.” But I did.

What company were you with and what was your role when you were in the program?

I was part of the Healthcare Fellows program in 2007. At the time I was Vice President, Business Development with MetaCyte Business Lab LLC. MetaCyte was a ‘venture builder,’ building companies in the healthcare space. It was affiliated with the downtown Louisville Medical Center.

What company are you with now? What role?

Currently I am Director of Strategic Marketing with BehaVR, LLC. BehaVR is pioneering the use of virtual reality in healthcare.

Any insights gained while you were a Fellow?

I remember thinking that the healthcare startup world was almost completely dissociated from the incumbents in town.

What is one thing you learned about Louisville as a healthcare ecosystem?

We toured the UPS healthcare facility. I had not been in there and remember being impressed by all the industry activity that flows through Louisville, somewhat unseen.

What professional or personal connections were made while you were a Fellow?

Dennis Roberts, then at ResCare, was a fellow Fellow. We had not formally met, although we had several mutual connections.
